Somebody was going to own the brand identity and the first to get to critical mass of course, is typically the one that does. So the investment banker is out there. The executive team got part of the transaction. That nobody will be hollering at them. And that means accounting, people paying the bills and taking care of the vendors and payments. But he also wanted the best for me and he wanted to be that person. I guess I always assumed that would be the way it was. Absolutely. I need to know that when they think the way we think, they know the goals to go, theyll get us there because they take initiative and freedom and they know who we are. And if enough people like our opinion, we have a compelling concept. And so I wanted everybody to get rewarded. So Im in Toronto where we have terrible winters and we dont have biscuits but you started this company and if I lived in Florida, I would definitely know and have enjoyed your product. Weve been able to help her get her credit turned around, to have her own home. I call it food with an opinion. The concept is based on delivering a unique guest experience involving comfort food with a modern twist and gracious service. Because initially they were like, You just messed up my life. And I actually bring to the community leaders by level of risk. That was a critical piece. We taught her how to run a community store. If we get to a point where we think hey, you know what? And they said no, theyre not interested in divesting themselves. So we came up with a four leadership model that gave us depth and breadth to support a large, a fast growth pattern. Those things cant go away. And they do a very detailed, thorough review of who we were, from the brand to the financials, the store economics, the opportunities and we both came to them and said, This is the right partnership.. But I also thought if were a community store, we could go one step further and asked our guests to help us clean up after were done. And pride is something I think a lot of people struggle with. At what point did the conversation into the nine month quoting process go from you buying their stores, to the opposite. And again, we went from the eight stores to 25 stores in 18 months, thats a lot of ramping up. That Ive had it but Ive never had it that way before. Ive got time, Ill go figure it out. And it was just going to be helping somebody in their life. There were some that had been on the Maple Street initially that it was a little bit of a shock. I read a lot but I read more in the next six months than Id read in a long time. But again, remember I had done the analysis on what it the three PNLs. Ive got to figure out whats going on. Well, they realized that what Maple Street had done was built a culture and a brand defined by a vocabulary that they used internally and externally that would be so hard to compete with that it made it worth it to them to acquire Maple Street rather than simply compete with them. She has her daughter living with her. But I dont want to have to worry when they come here. On the personal? I think we still can do that better and were trying to find more and more vehicles which communicate to people and keep them connected. She didnt have any restaurant experience. I never look at it, I dont review it. Because at the end of the day, the acquirers going to make a very simple calculation. To fund the growth, he put his house up as collateral on a bank loan and personally signed a guarantee that, had Moore failed, would have left him penniless. Id lived there for seven years. But they hadnt really moved on them in the last year. But the journey hasn't been as simple as the. So for us to add this diligence was significant. And so we put in the plan that we were going to go from basically eight community stores to 25 community stores in an 18 month period across the Southeast of the United States. 30-year career in the grocery business. Every year its been a different community store with a different community leader. I mean if we doubled what we thought we would do in sales, is it really going to be, this is a great thing? And so, yeah, is it perfect every time, all the time? We previously talked about, our community leaders get our mission so well. Thats why we keep moving forward. I mean, with all the resources in the world, why wouldnt they just compete with you? And thats a lesson that my friend Scott Moore learned. They want to be able to be across thousands of units that you go in and you get what you said but its not a bad experience. Do you ever feel that way? I mean was she aware of the ramifications of not getting it right? Our SVP of HR had called me in and she had the conversation with me that the role I was doing was going away. Good business people earn the right to go do more good. All this while producing a Sustainable Business. We werent but for entities that are, or somebody whos just looking to buy it to flip it in a couple of years. So for me, our number one filter is trust. So this could have ended totally different, John. I guess what Im getting at is, is it a multiple of EBIDTA or a multiple of sales? Then based on my takeaway, I need to make sure I create space in my life for people to challenge me and to have the ability to say no. I wish about the eight hours they come to Maple Street to be the place where they can get some rest. And so I would walk across around the block theres a Panera that was a block away. So from this little scrappy startup that was every nickel, dime and dollar just to earn the right to go do some more, to be in a position where we have no debt is such a freeing thing. Yeah, I always have this phrase John would say, Make it easy to do right, hard to do wrong. When we built the model, I wanted to build it so that it was easy to execute against it. And I could say the same thing. She had to ask her grandparents to take her daughter and take care of her because she couldnt afford to do it.
